Course Overview
This comprehensive two-day course is designed for individuals in the electricity supply industry who need to operate plant and equipment or perform non-electrical work in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus. The course encompasses critical safety protocols, legislative compliance, and practical application of standard operational procedures to ensure the safety and efficiency of workplace practices around live electrical environments.
Day 1: Safety Fundamentals - Prerequisite Unit: UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
The first day of the course focuses on the foundational aspects of workplace health and safety regulations, codes, and practices. Participants will engage in:
- Understanding and applying work health and safety (WHS) regulations, codes, and practices.
- Identifying potential workplace hazards and implementing effective control measures.
- Ensuring personal and team safety through adherence to established safety protocols.
This session sets the groundwork necessary for safely operating within environments containing live electrical apparatus.
Day 2: Specialised Operational Training

UETDREL006 - Work Safely in the Vicinity of Live Electrical Apparatus as a Non-Electrical Worker
Participants will learn to:
- Apply relevant legislation, standards, and workplace procedures for operating plant and equipment near live electrical apparatus.
- Identify hazards, assess risks, and apply control measures to ensure safety up to the defined safe approach distance.
- Utilise communication methods effectively and ensure all safety measures are in place before and during operations.
- Adhering to safety regulations and practices when working near live electrical apparatus without direct engagement.
- Understanding the roles and responsibilities when working in environments with live electrical hazards.
- Implementing safety observer protocols and maintaining communication with all team members to ensure a safe working environment.
