Course Overview
In this dynamic one-day Face-to-Face session, participants will engage in a comprehensive learning experience designed to equip them with essential knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in critical roles within the workplace emergency response framework. The amalgamation of PUAFER005 (Operate as part of an emergency control organization) and PUAFER008 (Confine small emergencies in a facility) ensures a well-rounded curriculum that covers both leadership responsibilities and hands-on firefighting capabilities.
These units have been developed to cover facilities, building, structure or workplace that is, or may be, occupied by people (occupants) as specified in Australian Standard AS3745 and AS4083. Occupants or people attending a facility on a permanent or temporary basis such as an employee, contractor, student or resident, but not a visitor or patient.
Key Learning Objectives:
Emergency Control Organization (ECO) Roles:
- Gain an understanding of the Emergency Control Organization's structure and function within a workplace.
- Develop the skills required to perform key roles, including fire warden and emergency evacuation warden.
Leadership and Communication Skills:
- Acquire effective communication strategies to lead and coordinate emergency responses.
- Learn to assess and manage evacuation procedures, ensuring the safety of all occupants.
Emergency Response Planning:

Assessment Method: Participants will undergo both theoretical assessments and practical evaluations to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the material and the ability to apply acquired skills in real-world situations.
All aspects of the unit must be undertaken in line with legislative requirements, organisational policies and procedures and approved safe practices. It applies to members of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) who are chief wardens, deputy chief wardens and communications officers.
