Course Overview

This comprehensive three-day course is designed for individuals seeking to obtain their licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (EWP) where the boom length is 11 meters or more. The course is structured into two days of intensive training followed by one day of assessment, providing participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate boom-type EWPs in a variety of work environments.

Day 1 & 2: Training

Participants will engage in hands-on training and theoretical learning covering:

• Understanding the different types of EWPs and their applications.
• Inspecting and maintaining equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Assessing operational hazards and implementing control measures.
• Operating the EWP in accordance with operational procedures and safety regulations.
• Understanding the limitations of EWPs and managing emergency situations.
• Practical exercises on operating a boom-type EWP under close supervision.

Day 3: Assessment

The final day will focus on assessing participants' skills and knowledge acquired during the training days. The assessment includes:

• A written test covering the theoretical aspects of EWP operation.
• A practical examination where participants demonstrate their ability to safely operate a boom-type EWP in various scenarios.
• An evaluation of the participants’ ability to identify and mitigate potential operational hazards.

Final Assessment MUST be conducted by an accredited SafeWork NSW certified assessor to be certified for a High Risk Work (HRW) WP class licence.

What you need

• the following forms provided by your assessor:
  • the 'Application for a national licence to perform high risk work – New application' form
  • the original orange and white copy of your Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA)
• proof of identity – see Evidence of identity – PDF
• a passport-quality photograph with your name, date of birth and signature on the back (verified by your assessor)
• your current HRW licence (if you have one)
• your payment.

How to apply

You must apply within 60 days from the date of issue of your NSA.

1. Complete the application form provided by your assessor, but do not sign it.
2. Gather together:
   • the orange and white NSA
   • the identity documents and photograph your assessor verified
   • your unsigned application form
   • your current HRW licence (if applicable)
   • your method of payment.
3. Select the 'Find an Australia Post office' 
4. Select 'More services' and filter by:
   • 'Identity and document services'
   • 'Licence to perform high risk work – NSW (New and Renewal)'

 5. Visit your chosen Post Office and lodge your application
